Nev Reviews it for You was a website which I orginally bought with intention of giving people genuine reviews on consumer items stretching from magasine subsriptions to holiday homes.
My idea came about because after returning home from my big OE with a heavily pregnant wife and house to set up, I wanted to buy the best stuff – for the best price. We were on a budget, but I didn’t want to buy rubbish and then have to re-buy it all again two years down the track. The website I turned to was the Consumer website and it proved invaluable. It always gave the top tested items catorgarised into ‘best performance’ and also ‘best value for money’. You can guess which one I was going for! We used it to purchase heaters, printers and even vacuum cleaners! Actually the vacuum cleaner review was great as my wife has asthma and we ended up getting a good priced vacuum cleaner which didnt affect asthmatics.
Anyway, my studies in web design lent easily to the idea of creating a website similar to the consumer website, but my plan was for it to be free. I found it a little unfair to have to PAY for good honest advice. I am a little old fashioned that way! I had the idea that people could actually submit their items to me for review, and if they lived up to my criteria I would list them on my site. In my mind, my ideas was a win for consumers and also for sellers.
However, what I didn’t want to create was a website which was influenced by sellers actually PAYING me to promote their products, which is so often the case not just in the internet, but also in magazines. When flicking through my wifes girlie magazines, I always find myself chuckling as I read the ‘latest monthly picks’ in facecreams and other girls things. I laugh because these ALWAYS conincide with full page ads for the same products or for the same company at least. It is all ‘paid talk’ and not genuine reviewing as they would have their readers think. I know this is marketing and all credit to them, but it was not what I wanted Nev Reviews it For You to be about. Yes, I would need to make some income out of spending my time on it, but I knew that I could make enough off it to pay me a decent hourly rate with a few paid ads around my page, but none which would affect the greater meaning of my site.
And Nev Reviews it For You would have been great I’m sure…and it still may be! As it was, we had our little boy Rafael and then pretty smartly after, our little Eva, and life got very busy, very fast! But, I have not forgotton about my ideas and rationale behind Nev reviews it for you, and I also note the need for honest and fair reviews online. I just need to find the time to pursue this and one day I will! In the words of a very dear friend of mine – WATCH THIS SPACE!
